Proud Shoes

Style: Brown Ale

Durham native Pauli Murray, a trailblazing civil rights activist, lawyer, and Episcopal priest, left an indelible mark on American history through her fearless advocacy for racial and gender equality. Her memoir, "Proud Shoes," published in 1956, delves into her family's multigenerational journey, chronicling their struggles and triumphs amidst racial prejudice in the Jim Crow South. Our Brown Ale beer, named after this poignant documentary, is the second in a series honoring historical Durham figures and landmarks. Hayti Haze

Style: Hazy IPA

During the 1920s to 1950s, the Hayti Business District flourished as a bustling economic hub within the African American community of Durham, North Carolina. Recognized for its entrepreneurial vigor and cultural vibrancy, it marked a significant period of financial growth despite the challenges of segregation and racial inequality. In homage to this era, we present “Hayti Haze”, a bold and juicy IPA crafted with Mosaic, Citra, and El Dorado hops. This brew is the first in a series honoring the historic days of the city’s Black Wall Street and the resulting small business movement taking place in revitalized East Durham.

Carolina Peach

Style: Peach Sour Saison

ABV: 5.3%

Brewed with a blend of sour ale and traditional saison yeasts, Carolina Peach carries subtle notes of peppery spice and earthy funk, which mingle beautifully with the tartness from a perfectly calibrated souring process. the finish is crisp and effervescent, leaving a vibrant peach-forward character that shines no matter the season. Pair it with fresh seafood, salads, or enjoy it solo. Cheers!

Pronounced Hay-tie

Style: Double Hazy IPA

ABV: 9.0%

“Pronounced Hay-Tie” is a bold evolution of our flagship Hayti Haze that playfully corrects the often mispronounced name of Durham’s historic Hayti District, and serves as both homage and education to the once thriving center of Black business and culture. This “pronounced” version of the original is double dry-hopped with Citra, Mosaic, El-Dorado and Galaxy hops, giving it juicy notes of ripe mango, pineapple, and passionfruit. We are honored to release this beer exactly one year from our brewery’s grand opening, and thank you for your continued support of our brand and social mission.
